Mi Cafeto Co., Ltd.

Founded in 2008 by José Kawashima, Mi Cafeto is dedicated to improving the quality of coffee across the globe. Their endeavors are not limited to producing the best quality coffee bean, but extend to all levels of production and supply. Mi Cafeto believes that supporting the lives of coffee farmers and protecting the environment is integral to producing the finest and most sustainable coffee. Having recognized the growing threat to the global coffee industry, Mi Cafeto joined the Sustainable Coffee Challenge in 2016 as the first partner from Japan.

Statement of support

“At Mi Cafeto, we believe coffee can change the world and that by transforming the coffee industry we can help solve social and environmental problems around the globe. By providing truly sustainable coffee, we act as a bridge between coffee producing countries and consuming countries in creating a sustainable world. In coffee producing countries we provide support for sustainable coffee production through our clear quality standards and paying appropriate prices based on the various quality levels of the coffee. In consuming countries, we create a new market where consumers can enjoy the diversity and differences of coffee. In order to achieve this goal, we visit coffee farms around the world providing support to local coffee farmers through sustainable coffee production techniques and protecting the natural environment while introducing their coffee along with their stories to consumers. We are very excited to join Sustainable Coffee Challenge as the first member from Japan and look forward to share ideas with other members from around the world.” José Y. Kawashima, President and CEO

Update

November 29, 2020

Working with our partner farms, we developed ''Sustainability Goals'' to advance each farm’s sustainability initiatives and bring them to the next level in a three-year plan. We are happy to announce that 95% of individual estates successfully reached their goals that were set against their initial benchmarks. Due to COVID-19 travel bans and the lack of internet connection on some farms, confirmation of the remaining 5% of individual estates has been postponed to 2021. We will complete final confirmation for the remaining estate once the relevant travel bans have been removed.

The annual progress of our partner farm’s individual goals against Mi Cafeto's Sustainability Goals have been confirmed. A few farms joined as new partners from 2018 and will start with the benchmark report from 2018.
