Our commitment to give back 2% of our earnings to support clean water and environmental health extends throughout our supply chain, through the choices we make as a business and into our local communities. We honor and support the communities we buy from and sell to. We understand how our business is linked to the need to respect the water sources we depend upon. We believe that a great cup of coffee has the ability to bring people together in appreciation of the world we share.

For our second 2023 sustainable coffee commitment, we have set a goal to have 70% or more of our total coffee purchases to be Certified Organic and Fair Trade.
For our third 2023 sustainable coffee commitment, we have set a goal that 75% of our remaining (not certified organic) coffee purchases must be direct trade, fair trade practice or organically grown but not certified.
For our fourth 2023 sustainable coffee commitment, we have set a goal to provide a $0.10 per pound additional premium to coffees purchased from Gold Mountain Coffee Growers, with a goal of $1,000.
We will purchase Smithsonian Certified Bird Friendly coffees and design our program to promote the sale of these sustainably sourced products. In the 2022 season, we will increase our purchases of certified bird friendly coffees by 75% to a total of 210 [150lb] bags, up from 120 in 2021.

Our goal for 2022 was to purchase 210 bags of Bird Friendly Certified coffee, for an increase of 75% on the previous year. This goal was based on 150lb bags of coffee which would have totaled 31,500 pounds of coffee. We did not reach this goal in 2022. We only purchased a total of 25,801 pounds of Bird Friendly Certified coffee. However, this was still 41% more than what we purchased in 2021. We chose to mark this commitment with a total progress percentage of 100% because even though we did not meet our goal, it was specific for that one year. We will be making a new Bird Friendly coffee based commitment for 2023.
